Research Assistant

The professional will help to support, plan, conduct, and communicate research projects and programs focused on reducing occupational fatalities, injuries and illnesses among workers in the maritime industry. The person will provide research support by assisting with the organization of the CMSHS; assisting with the development of communications products; conducting systematic literature reviews; conducting and supporting data analysis based research activities; and assisting with the organization and facilitation of a workshop.

Duties to be performed:

  • Provide organizational support for the CMSHS. This includes organizing CMSHS steering committee meetings, taking and distributing minutes, newsletters, etc…
  • Assist in the development of communications products including PowerPoint presentations, webpages, fact sheets, CMSHS reports and social media posts
  • Serve as the Assistant Coordinator for the Agriculture Fishing and Forestry Sector Program
  • Support the organization and facilitation of an occupational safety and health focused workshop, held either in conjunction with another conference or as an independent NIOSH sponsored maritime industry event
  • Conduct, and publish, systematic literature reviews of occupational safety and health studies in the maritime industry
  • Work collaboratively with NIOSH scientists to identify and analyze data to better understand the burden and characteristics of occupational safety and health issues related to the maritime industry

Required Skills / Experience:

The right individual must have a Master’s degree in a science field. A Master’s degree in epidemiology, public health, or an occupational safety and health related subject is preferred.

The person must have experience in supporting research activities. They must have experience in word processing, data analysis and presentation preparation along with exceptional written and oral communication skills, and organizational skills.

Travel: The position requires limited travel to one workshop/conference, one CCI related meeting, one meeting with CCI stakeholders, and meetings with local partners and stakeholders
